DIY Tabletop Arcade

DIY Tabletop Arcade

A dear weekend project was to create a wooden tabletop cabinet casing around a Raspberry Pi 3. The plan was straight forward, since we got our hands on a Raspberry we knew that we wanted to make an old school cabinet.

We have a long history with gaming: each time when we had to set up different consoles to the tv (each with it's own controllers, joysticks or fighsticks) most of them had dead batteries. So now we wanted to do a complete Plug and Play setup, with everything included, from different emulators and consoles on the same platform, to dedicated screen, power supply and kill switch, two players controllers and sound system.

Everything revolves around the screen since the computer is smaller than most mobile phones nowadays, so once you find a suitable screen, the measurements follow. The build itself is easy (so is the wiring) and if you have the tools you could easily build it in 2 days, given the time for the paint to dry as well.

The Final Product

We wanted to make a surprise to our friend so we gave him the arcade.

Just a friendly reminder though, the whole thing, even as a table top arcade, takes a lot of space so make sure you have someplace to keep it :)
